A real apple (you won't want to eat it later, though!) or a toy apple like this one:

                                                apple-tree

Lyrics

Apple tree, apple tree,
Will your apple fall on me?
I won't cry, I won't shout,
If your apple knocks me out.

Recommended Grades

K-2

Teaching the Song

  • Feel free to keep the handclap with just partners or groups of three if you think the group of four would be too complicated.
  • You can also do the handclap in such a way that each child continues to join the original group.  They clap the same way that the group of three does--out to the sides.  At the end, you'll have one large standing circle.

Adding Instruments

  • If you set barred instruments with only bars C,D,E,G, and A, you can have children play any of the notes during the game, or later as a separate activity.  However, playing just C and G sounds particularly good.

  • apple-treeand apple-tree(Ta and Titi): Featuring only quarter and eighth notes, this song is perfect for teaching them!
